Why Book A Newborn Session in Leicester With
 Bumps Baby Beyond?

Most of my clients book their session straight after their 20 week scan, I know, I know, it's early.  You may still be working on your baby list, birthing plans or just planning what to do this weekend, how can you think of booking a photographer for your baby that isn't going to be born for months? If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know I speak a lot about booking early.  Why?  Because babies don't always come when you think!  The unpredictability of their arrivals means we need to pencil in your due date. I only take on a selected amount of newborn sessions in a 4 week period, this is to ensure I can capture your precious moments between day 5 and 14 of your baby’s life. This is what I call our 'Sweet Spot' and is the best time to photograph those tiny toes, and button nose; they are still curled up like they were in the womb and this is perfect for their session.

This doesn't mean your committed to your due date but reserves the availability of your photography session.  We will always keep in close contact throughout your pregnancy to see how things are going and to know once baby is born.

“What if my baby is born earlier or ether of you are needing to stay in hospital?” Don't worry, it happens! Just be sure to keep in touch with me so that once your released from hospital we can get you in as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 weeks of release.

“But my baby was born 4 weeks ago at 36 weeks” That’s fine, the 5-14 day rule doesn't apply if baby was born early. The main reason for this is I like your little one to be at least 4lbs for their session.  Depending on their gestation we will plan a suitable date for your session.

“But my baby is already born or due any day”  Don't worry!  I may be able to accommodate your session so please do get in touch!

Preparing For Your Session

Booking your newborn session is one of the most important milestones to capture, this sweet little bundle will change dramatically in the first two weeks of their life and what could be more important than documenting this. So here’s a little insite into how our sessions actually work.

One of our top tips for preparing you for your newborn session is to keep your little one awake for AT LEAST 1 hour before the session. Please try to give them a feed just before you leave this will help to ensure they are happy and settled and will sleep for us during the session. Load them up in the car and let drift off into a nice deep sleep, this will allow us to start as soon as you come into the studio. Please think forward for us and ensure they are wearing easy to get off clothes so we don’t disturb them too much when undressing then. Don’t worry about bringing the kitchen sink with you, Our studio is equipt with a breast-feeding pillow, bottle warmer, hot/cold drinks, snacks, nappies, wipes so all you need to do is turn up on time.

People often ask how to keep their baby awake, these are things that you do with them regularly like giving them a bath, putting them down on their play mat or on the bed just simply interacting with them. This helps to simulate their senses which at this young age really tires them out. Most people think, 'ah my baby is always sleepy, they will be fine' but the reality is they will be more easily disturbed if they aren’t worn out. We are undressing your baby, moving them from positions, which would wake a normally sleepy baby. Ensuring they are super tired means we will be able to get a lot more out of your session and capture the images you are after.

After you have paid your session fee, you will be sent a ‘What To Expect’ guide, which contains loads of useful information on the following:
-          Prior to your session
-          Preparing for your session
-          What to expect
-          Family portrait
-          Additional thoughts

We will also send you a sample gallery and go through images you like, I work closely with you to choose your preferred colour schemes, you might want this to tie in with room decor or favourite colours you and your family have – if you prefer I can use neutrals like creams and browns and tie in a little colour with the use of headbands\little hats, or I have a variety of pinks purples yellows mint green blues navys greys etc.

In Your Session

You've now arrived at your session, we've made you that nice hot cup of tea, or coffee and your only job is to now sit back and relax. Watch us sooth your baby, create those sweet images that you've been longing for, the ones that will be treasured for years to come! We start our sessions at 10am, and they usually last about 2 hours, although we do say to be prepared to stay for up to 4 hours Just in case baby is a little un settled. If you have more than one child, we always start with the family images and then move onto the sibling shots, these are just the cutest! We do this so that your older child doesn’t get bored and fed up of waiting and then less likely to have their photos taken. Please read our blog on how we safely achieve these sibling shots.

We then move onto our normal workflow which is our beanbag images. You can see a sample of these below, and we finish with our props. You will have pre-selected your favourite props when we speak before your session so that we can just get straight on and have a less risk of baby becoming unsettled or waking.

Don’t worry if your baby is awake during the session we have various techniques to settle them and can capture some lovely awake ones if they don’t play ball.
