BABY BELLEIt was an absolute pleasure to see this lovely family again. I photographed Amy in my home studio when she came for her mummy and me maternity session some months back. This year I have seen a huge amount of returning clients which makes my heart very happy it means I did a great job first time around and it is always nice to see familiar faces, and there’s nothing I love more than seeing a family grow! We kept her maternity session simple and timeless and injected some is a colour into her newborn session. Little belle was only 5 days new at her session, I was honoured when asked to photograph her as Amy is a dear friend of mine. This meant I could cuddle her that little bit longer and sneak in the odd kiss here and there hehe! Belle’s big brothers were out the day of session and we focused purely on her, we managed to get some close up details of those gorgeous long eyelashes she has, those tiny toes and button nose. In Amy’s pre-consultation we discussed what colour schemes she liked and what colour images would go with her room set up. We decided to keep things colourful with beautiful purples, we added texture with lovely multi coloured curled fabrics and used lace backdrops. When a client likes the use of colour I always suggest doing a neutral set up as well. Little Belle definitely made us work for the images but I am not shy of hard work especially when we get everything the client wanted from the session. If there is a certain pose they have seen on my website I always try and capture individual wishes. The only thing to determine whether this happens is the star of the show and what they are comfortable with. Some babies naturally fall into poses and others are more sensitive to touch and like being wrapped…this little lady certainly preferred being wrapped! Anyway enough about that, I have decided to do something different this time and instead of inserting images into this blog I have uploaded a little slideshow containing a few of the images from her session. Please visit my Youtube channel for more videos. xx

Introducing beautiful Isabella, just 12 days new. Isabella’s newborn photo shoot was such a lovely one; she’s got a gorgeous little character, keeping a watchful eye on me every few minutes, before slowly dozing back off again. After settling her into a deep sleep we started with some poses on the beanbag and then moved onto props and family shots. It was an extremely hot day (the hottest we have had in a few years!) and towards the end we decided we had captured more than enough images and prepared a nice damp towel for Isabella to have on her feet to cool her down; after all, she had been working hard all morning :) Isabella’s mummy and daddy are massive Disney fans; we tried to incorporate this into their session with a scene from Aladdin and had the little lady on the ‘magic carpet’. We then tried another with ‘Winnie The Pooh’ theme, allowing us to capture some gorgeous close ups of her dainty little features! Isabella’s grandparents brought her a present fit for a princess… and when I say that I mean quite literally! She had the special gift of an exquisite 'Print o da Wave' lace pattern with pink lining Burra Bear like princess Charlotte has. I took great care in including this in their gallery as I think it’s so personal to their family and something to include the previous generation in Whilst doing this session I decided to put together a mini behind the scene video to give you an insight on what happens in a session. Welcome to the world little man…last week I had the pleasure of photographing baby Harry and capturing this beautiful boys first images. Morgan was so very sweet with his baby brother. He came to my venue in Whetstone, Leicester during his first 2 weeks of life and he was a star! We started with props…props and more props :D Harry loved being sung in them and posing with his brother, mum and gran. I always ask client to pick a prop and I usually choose another as I receive new things all the time so it is so nice for the clients to get to be the first models on new props. If sibling shots aren’t going to be done I aim to do 4 different set ups with props then move onto the blanket ones. With young siblings I have to try and be a little more creative to ensure the newborn is safe at all times. For this particular image I photographed baby Harry in the prop earlier then we had big brother sit next to the empty prop and then I photoshopped them together afterwards. As we've been having such lovely weather recently, I decided to edit one with more of a summery feel and a few (OK a little more than a few!) bluebells! Below is a pose Id been wanting to try for a few sessions but I finally took the plunge and look how it turned out…this sweet little baby dreaming upon a cloud! People ask me all the time where I buy my fabric from, I get a lot from photography vendors like Newborn Baby Posing which is where this brown fabric is from but I also buy online such as Fabric.com. I always make sure there is enough stretch to keep them wrinkle free so spend less time editing creases out. I just love getting those simple yet effective parent and family shots, there’s something so raw and emotional about the connections captured in those moments! And now for a few close ups...
I am so honored to show you photos of beautiful Freddie at 4 days new! His mummy is a very dear friend of mine so I was over the moon when she booked me for the ‘Mummy and Me’ sessions (maternity and newborn). I watched as her glowing bump grew in size and waited for the day id get the phone call to say she was having him…this soon came around and I was there in a heartbeat to snap away at her little beauty! Freddie had the most gorgeous yet black hair, which made me chuckle as Charlotte had horrendous heartburn through her pregnancy and we often joked he would come out will a full head of hair…I guess this brings us back to the subject of old wives tales and if there is any truth behind them? Freddie has a big brother, Alfie who is 2, he soon grabbed my hand and led me to his new brother, saying ‘come see, come see’. He was such a darling with his new baby brother and loved having his little responsibilities such as fetching me various props. Alfie was then taken to play outside with grammar until the end of the session where we brought him back and did some sibling photos. I’ve never seen anyone’s face light up so much, he loved looking down and seeing his little brother laying there. You could tell he was bursting with excitement and kept saying ‘more photos please’ which makes a change to them shying away from the strange lady with a camera! Alfie’s grammar, plays a big part in their lives and will forever hold a special place in her heart for her grandchildren so it was lovely to be able to capture a photo that represents their love for each other! Anyway enough rambling on I will let you coo over the little images that were taken during my time with this growing family J the theme of our session…black and white, timeless artwork pieces
Morning all Today I’m proudly showing off little Miss Elsie-Fay, isn’t she just the cutest! Look at tiny little button nose, ten tiny fingers and 10 tiny toes! Elsie-Fay came to me at just 5 days new and weighing only 6lbs 5oz I managed to put her into some of my shiny new props for smaller babies. Elsie-Fay was a pleasure to photograph and I loved seeing her mum grin from ear to ear as we were changing positions and props. I will always have a pre-session consultation with my clients once the booking has taken place and in this we discuss props and colour schemes for the session. Elsie-Fays mummy loved all the sparkly and girlie props so we tried to incorporate this as much as possible. We also used a lovely fur bucket from Bee4Bee. When choosing props its important to make sure the baby fits comfortably and a general rule of thumb for this is to make sure the opening is as wide as your elbow to your wrist. I always use something to weight the bottom of the basket/bucket down to ensure the babies safety. Elsie-Faye seemed to enjoy the props as she would always nod off when put in one so we managed to create lots of sleepy shots. When changing props she had a little feed from mum and went straight back down again in a milky dreamland sleep.
Elsie-Faye quickly decided that she loved all of my props so much she would show her appreciation by pooping on everything… Now this DOES happen in 90% of my sessions so I’m completely used to being covered in it myself, however, this time it was her poor mummy that got covered (sorry about that!). Everything I use is washed with fairy non-bio and disinfected as your little ones Health and Safety is my number one priority Oh where to start with little miss Poppy-Leigh, isn’t she just the cutest! I honestly didn’t want to put her down, I could have cuddled her all day. Posing newborn babies is amongst the most delicate arts. Taking those fabulous shots which will live on within any family's album for the rest of their lives can be a very rewarding job – I just love their squishy little cheeks, lovely crinkles in their backs and the adorable tiny feet and hope that the parents enjoy these just as much as me! Black and white images are also a favourite for me, so as a thank you for every colour digital image you buy you will get a black and white one FREE. Poppy-Leigh was such a dream to work with, being only 8 days old allowed us to get her into those newborn womb like poses with ease. Before I had my children I used to look at newborn photography and think ‘ooo how do you pose a baby like that’ ‘hmmm that doesn’t look comfortable’ but soon after I had my children I soon realised these are the position they are actually most comfortable in. There’s not a lot of room in your tummy and you'd be surprised and how much babies love to feel secure, wrapped up tightly, laying on their side with legs high up to their chest, hands by their face…these are all thing they used to do whilst growing into the perfect little beings they are today! I recently attended a newborn course which covered up all the fundamentals of newborn photography such as utilising creative props & important safety measures which helped me understand what poses are best for each individual child. The course allowed me to grow the skills & confidence which is crucial in order to develop your photography. I feel that what I have learnt has been demonstrated in these images and hope you readers also see that? Wraps and hair ties from Fairyworld Shop.
